In 2004, 13 Acts reached the famous number-one position in the US for the first time — some as lead artists and others as featured guests. Ciara and Fantasia Barrino were the only ones with a number-one debut single. During the year, seven artists reached the number-one position through collaborations.
The longest-running single of 2004 is undoubtedly Usher’s. He was at the top with “Yeah!” no less than 12 consecutive weeks. Number two also belonged to Usher, with his song “Burn” spending eight weeks. Other songs with a long time at number one were Ciara’s “Goodies” with Petey Pablo and again Usher, this time with “My Boo,” a duet with Alicia Keys, which spent 7 and 6 weeks at number one, respectively.
In total, Usher spent 28 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in one calendar year, making him the first act to do so. “Yeah!” is the highest-charting single of the calendar year, topping the Top Hot 100 Hits 2004.
